  2. Hey Steve,

I just bought 3 huge coolers that look like cans for my drinks. I know that the trailer needs to be a 4×4 to build the cart. Should I get a 4×6 trailer (I found one for $100 in good condition) The reason for that is to have extra room to place my three coolers and table on it. By getting a 4×6 trailer will that throw me off on building the hot dog cart (like the measurements)

    1. Yes, that would work fine Cristine. Just be sure the cart balances slightly tongue down when it’s loaded.

  3. Do you have any tips or tricks on how to hide the wire nuts? I’m not sure I like the idea of them being exposed to the weather or wind during travel. Thanks for any info.

    1. An alternative to wire nuts would be to solder the wires and use heat shrink tubing to protect the splice. FYI I used wire nuts and my electrical system is performing fine years later. It’s up to you.

  4. I have got the trailer all wired up and checked out, checked out fine every thing works fine. I have a question that maybe you could give me some info. on ? I have checked out the trailer hitches and every place I go they want $350. to install or $250 for the hitch alone. I have checked on the computer sites and have found some at reasonable prices but am confused at which ones to purchase . Can you or someone give advice on which one would be a good match for the trailer ? I am able to install it. Just point me in the right direction . I live in Ohio so any help would be welcome ??

    1. I just bought a hitch from eTrailer.com. Installed it myself. The price was great and they have installation videos for practically any vehicle. I highly recommend them.

  5. OK Steve… Harbor freight is at it again… on the side marker lights they now have TWO wires. a brown and a white… I take it the white is the ground and should be attached to the bolt holding the light to the trailer. Is this a correct assumption?

Otherwise progress is going going well..the specialty base for the trailer is done and cut and painted… I will post pictures soon! The new name is official… SHADY DAWG! wait til you see the logo. My wife is an art teacher and her advanced students are working on the concept dang they are GOOD!

  6. Steve, do u take the trailer down first, get a tag , then build the top?or d0 it all together? I am building my trailer and the top is incorporated as one, I can take now as a bare frame, with floor , once its done it wont separate, its all steel bedframe? thanks Rob in Dade City fl

  7. Hello Steve, I will be using a larger trailer than the one you built on the video. Both tail lights and side marker lights have their own ground wire on the larger trailer and of course, there is the front wiring harness ground wire. I noticed that the tail lights on the smaller trailer you put together don’t seem to have a ground wire. Did I miss something or are they grounded to the front side marker lights? Very curious! Thanks, Steve.

  8. Steve, I know you told me that I could build longer on this same frame but just did the math and I’m thinking I may go 8′. Should I go with longer trailer?
