This may be a question better suited to the firebox section but it has to do with the soffit vents. I’ve seen another wooden frame cart where they put cement board, adjusting the frame for size, surrounding the firebox basically sectioning it off from the rest of the cart. Would that be enough protection to eliminate the need for the side vents? Even though it would add to the cost it would give the cart a more traditional look and would also simplify skinning the cart in metal, described in your metal secrets videos, if I choose to do so. Is this a safe option or am I asking for disaster?

    1. I believe that our design is simpler, lighter, and easier to build but you can modify it any way that you choose. I don’t think the vents look bad at all and they do a great job keeping the cart cool. They do what they are designed to do.

I see what you’re saying. I COULD insulate the firebox, adding weight, expense, and complexity, but because of the efficiency of your venting method you’ve made all that unnecessary. Got it.

Are the side skins the same type of Luan plywood that is used for the top or should I use another type of plywood for the side skins?

    1. Yes, they are the same William.

How long does it take to build an EZ-Cart?

    1. I had one customer who was so excited that he booked a gig for the coming weekend – but he didn’t have a cart yet! So he busted his behind and built an E-Z Built cart in three days. Most folks take a week or two if they are working on it on evenings and weekends.

On my side serve I placed the vent that your video shows being placed right next to the firebox, down low (close to bottom of cart) and my cart gets awefully hot inside. should i have placed it up higher, directly next to the firebox as your video shows for better heat dispertion? if so should i move it up, or would it be more helpful to install another vent there and leave the one down low as is?

    Thanks

    1. Leave the bottom vent and put another one up higher next to the fire box.

What would be another option to use for a skin (not metal) or the table top? Is the Luan Plywood the best option?

    1. It’s best to use the luan plywood. The resulting structure is stiffer and lighter than anything else.
